Airport passenger volume up 3.6 pct in July

The city’s local airport posted a year-on-year increase of 3.6 per cent last month for passenger volume, while aircraft movements jumped 10.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, the airport operator Macau International Airport Company Ltd (CAM) announced yesterday. Last month, the local airport welcomed more than 510,000 passengers and managed over 4,800 aircraft movements, according to CAM. The notable jump in aircraft movements was due to some airlines increasing flight frequency for the summer holidays, as well as offering more seasonal charter flights. The airport operator indicated that Macau-East Asia routes had dominated the overall market last month, as 40 per cent of total passengers boarded flights connecting the city to East Asian countries, such as Japan. Meanwhile, passengers travelling between the city and Mainland China, as well as Taiwan, accounted for 34 per cent and 26 per cent of the total passenger volume, respectively. In addition, the airport operator revealed that Jetstar Parcific Airline is planning to launch a new route between the Special Administrative Region and Hai Phong in Vietnam, in addition to a new Macau-Ho Chi Minh route announced last month.
