Analysts see 0.6 pct gaming revenue fall in 2014

The mean estimate of nine analysts is that gross gaming revenue in Macau’s casinos will be US$44.89 billion (MOP358.52 billion) this year, 0.6 percent less than last year, Bloomberg reports. The news agency says last year’s revenue set a high base for comparison, that the mass market for gaming is growing more slowly than before, that the mainland’s campaign against extravagance was deterring its people from gambling in Macau and that casino workers were pressing for better pay. It noted that gaming revenue last month was 23.2 percent lower than a year earlier, the biggest annual fall in any month since 2005.
