Angela Leong “victim” of her illegally leased unit

A legislator and executive director of SJM Holdings Ltd., Angela Leong On Kei
claimed innocence with the media yesterday regarding the sealing off of one of her flats, at Lake View Mansion in Macau. The government recently took the action as they say it had been leased out as illegal accommodation.
In late April, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) sealed off a unit of over 2,000 square feet owned by Ms. Leong at Lake View Mansion, a private housing complex in Nam Van on the Macau Peninsula, local Chinese-language online news outlet All About Macau reported last week.
The property management company in charge of managing Lake View Mansion is STDM – Property Management Company Ltd.
“I’m also a victim of the case…I’ll pursue [the legal responsibility of] the leasing agent of the [sealed off] unit,” Ms. Leong said in briefly responding to media on the sidelines of the plenary session of the Legislative Assembly yesterday.
Ms. Leong owns at least two floors of housing units at Lake View Mansion, All About Macau reported, citing information from official property registration data.
“I don’t know to which parties the units [at Lake View Mansion] have been leased,” Ms. Leong said. “This case is undesirable, which I’ve also fallen victim to.”
The casino boss and legislator noted that the leasing of her owned flats at the housing complex had been “wholly handled” by her agent. She added that the local police had yet to contact her regarding the case of her sealed off flat.
According to the city’s laws, operating illegal accommodation can result in a fine of MOP200,000 (MOP25,048) to MOP800,000; the owner of the unit being run as illegal accommodation will also have his or her unit sealed off by the government.
