Chui meeting Beijing ministers next week on marine boundary and border issues

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On is meeting with the heads of China’s General Administration of Customs and State Oceanic Administration in Beijing from 16 to 18 June. During the visit, the MSAR delegation will discuss with Chinese officials the city’s administrative rights to the city’s customary waters and new border crossing format. Currently the surrounding waters of the territory do not belong to the MSAR, which means that any plans by the Macau Government to build ferry terminals or reclaim land must gain Beijing’s approval. Macau is currently seeking to define the boundary of waters that it can directly govern.
