Film Festival | Korean star YoonA would welcome challenge of working in international films

Macau (MNA) – South Korean actress Im Yoon Ah (YoonA), known for her work in K-pop group Girls Generation, spoke to media about her acting aspirations as well as her upcoming project, an action film named EXIT during an International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM) press conference on Saturday.

The film, which is YoonA’s second film, will also star Korean actor Jo Jung Suk.

YoonA had made her film debut in South Korean film Confidential Assignment in 2017, for which she has won the Most Popular Actress in the Bakesang and Seoul Awards.

The starlet got her acting start in television dramas such as You Are My Destiny and Love Rain.

“I would accept the challenge and won’t say no to future possibilities, but first of all if I am going to act and participate in a movie project outside Korea, the most important thing to do is to overcome the language barrier and difficulties, so I think I will spend a lot of time grasping and learning a new language,” said the star when asked if she would consider working in films shot outside South Korea.

This was despite YoonA having to speak different languages such as English, Spanish and Malay while shooting Korean dramas.

“These languages appear in South Korean dramas, but it does not mean I am necessarily fluent,” YoonA said. “If I am to take my acting career to the next level, I think the next thing to do is to grasp a foreign language and make myself fluent.”

In addition, Ms. Im said she loved movies and wanted to participate in more film festivals.

“I am very pleased and feel honoured to be an ambassasdor of IFFAM and I hope that this film festival will draw a lot of people who love movies in Macau.”

YoonA has also hosted the 22nd Busan International Film Festival, held in the eponymous city.

Regarding her acting experience, YoonA said that she did not feel additional pressure being an actress compared to her time working in Girls Generation, but said that acting allows her to “meet people from all walks of life.”

“I grew up through acting in different dramas and movies,” YoonA added.

IFFAM runs from December 8 to 14.
