Gaming industry’s takings grow 13 pct in 2012

The advent of new casinos and hotels meant the operating receipts of gaming and ancillary businesses grew by 13 percent last year to MOP306.49 billion (US$38.38 billion), official data show. The gaming industry’s operating expenditure rose by 11 percent to MOP134.53 billion. Its gross value added, or contribution to the economy, rose by 16 percent to MOP186.45 billion. Investment in construction of casino resorts and electronic gaming equipment meant the industry’s gross fixed capital formation rose by 42 percent to MOP3.19 billion.
