Macau | Gov’t closely monitoring liquefied petroleum gas prices in the city after international downtrend

Macau (MNA) – The Macau Economic Bureau (DSE) indicated on Tuesday that given the sharp drop in oil prices in the international markets in the fourth quarter of last year, it is closely monitoring the prices of petroleum products to guarantee the rights of consumers.

‘Liquefied petroleum gas is one of the basic necessities, the sector must update its prices closely following the international markets, in addition to ensuring the stable supply of the same product,’ the DSE stated.

According to data by the DSE, the average price for 10 kilogrammes of liquefied gas in Macau ranged from MOP150 (US$18.5) to MOP200.

The Chinese New Year period and winter in Macau as in Mainland China, sees greater demand for liquefied petroleum gas, with the DSE having held work groups with the Macau Fuel Industry Association to to remind them to monitor the supply of the product and the preparation of resources to meet the market needs during this period.

On September last year, the Consumer Council released a report that indicated inspections revealed that seven of the 19 refueling stations showed irregularities, mainly measurement errors on pump readers which would began to count before fueling.

At the time the the mistakes were said to have been corrected.
