H1 trade deficit widens by 15 pct to MOP38.42 bln

The deficit in Macau’s merchandise trade grew to MOP38.42 billion (US$4.81 billion) in the first half of this year, 15 percent more than a year earlier, official data show. The Statistics and Census Service says the value of first-half exports rose by 10 percent to MOP5.04 billion patacas. Domestic exports were worth MOP972 million, 4 percent less, but re-exports were worth MOP43.46 billion, 14 percent more. The value of imports rose by 14 percent to MOP43.46 billion. Over half of Macau’s exports went to Hong Kong and nearly one-third of its imports came from the mainland.
