Issue of Mainland China individual travel visas for Macau suspended

Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon has stated today that in order to contain the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus, the Chinese central government has already suspended the issue of individual travel visas for mainlanders to travel to Macau.

Chinese who obtained the visas prior to the suspension enforcement will still be allowed to enter the SAR.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam had just announced today that the SAR will drastically reduce cross-border travel with mainland China.

One of these measures will also include for Chinese authorities to stop issuing individual travel visas for mainlanders, effective midnight of January 30 (Thursday).

Other measures include the shutdown of the railways to the city, while flights from and to the mainland will be cut by half and cross-border tour buses will also be reduced.

However, the Secretary considered that the current health and quarantine controls provided in the borders were sufficient and that no similar transport restriction measures would be implemented for now in Macau.
