Macau | Construction workers making less money in Q3

Macau (MNA) – The average daily wage of construction workers in the Macau SAR decreased 5.5 per cent quarter-to-quarter to MOP832 in the third quarter of 2017, according to the data provided by the Statistics and Census Services Bureau (DSEC) today.

DSEC noted the decrease was mainly attributable to a ‘weakened demand for construction workers following the completion of large-scale entertainment facilities and residential projects.’

The average daily wages of construction workers holding a Macau SAR ID (MOP1,052) and of construction workers holding a working permit (MOP715) fell 3.6 per cent and 7.7 per cent, respectively, quarter-to-quarter.

Amongst the different professional categories appointed by DSEC, only electricians and electrical workers (MOP784) experienced a salary increase, up 9.8 per cent.

The average daily wage of skilled and semi-skilled workers (MOP834) dropped 5.7 per cent quarter-to-quarter, while that of unskilled workers (MOP425) fell 3.2 per cent during the period under review.
