Macau (MNA) – Some 1,500 business representatives from 38 countries have participated in the 15th World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs, an event aimed at promoting Macau as a platform between the Chinese diaspora and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Speaking on Friday at the event, held as part of the Macau International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF), the Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac urged overseas Chinese businessmen to connect with investment opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries in the European Union, Latin America and Africa.

Leong emphasise the upcoming opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge (HZMB) and Macau’s zero tariff status as advantages that the city holds as a trade centre.

During the Summit, it was announced that ten merchant associations will organise an upcoming delegation to the free trade zone in Hengqin.

Hengqin has been defined as a free trade zone since April 23, 2015 with a focus on the development of technology, Chinese medicine, healthcare, culture, creativity, financial and business services as well as leisure and tourism.

According to information from Invest Zhuhai, companies which set up in Zhuhai are subject to 15 per cent corporate income tax, with some 29,284 market entities setting up in the area as of February 2017.
