Macau | 18 new members elected for 13th CPPCC

Macau (MNA) – A total of 18 new members from the Macau SAR have been elected for the 13th session of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

There is a total of 29 Macau SAR representatives appointed under the new list of the CPPCC.

The new members include O Lam, the office head for the MSAR Chief Executive (CE); Cheong U, former Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Wong Hin Fai and Chan Hon, both incumbent indirectly elected legislators; Wu Zhiliang, president of the Macao Foundation; Leong Lai, the incumbent director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and; Ho Ion Sang, a directly elected legislator.

The re-elected members are Edmund Ho Hau Wah, incumbent Vice Chairman of CPPCC and former MSAR CE; Chui Sai Cheong, brother of MSAR CE Fernando Chui Sai On and incumbent vice-chairman of the Legislative Assembly (AL); and Leonel Alves, a former legislator.

Other re-elected members, with various interests in business, the gaming industry, and the real estate sector are Ma Iao Lai, president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce; Chan Meng Kam, former legislator and owner of Golden Dragon Group Company Limited; Lawrence Ho, chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts and Entertainment; Liu Chak-wan;  David Chow Kam Fai, CEO of Macau Landmark and Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Investment Co Ltd; Xu Jiankang, president of real estate company Powerlong Group Development Co. Ltd; Chong Siu Kin, president of Real Estate Association of Macau; and Sio Tak Hong, chairman of Hotel Fortuna Limited.

Members who have kept their positions in the CPPCC include Ho Teng Iat, Fu Tiesheng, Leong Sio Pui, Leung Va, Wong Yue Kai, Zhang Zong Zhen, Cheong Meng Seng, Ho Fu Keong, Ung Pui Kun, Suen Yan Kwong and Lo Wei Sek.

Billionaire David Ng Lap Seng, who was convicted last July on bribery charges in the U.S., and Or Wai Shuen, the chairman of Polytec Asset Holdings Limited, who is currently involved in a trial over a land plot dispute with the MSAR Government, have not been re-appointed as CPPCC members.
