Macau | 32 cases of domestic violence reported in first half of 2018

Macau (MNA) – There were 32 confirmed cases of domestic violence reported in Macau according to the Central Registry of Domestic Violence published by the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) on Monday.

The 32 cases include 19 cases involving spousal abuse, three involving family members and ten uncategorised domestic violence cases.

The majority of the cases involve physical violence, with 22 cases out of 32 (68.8 per cent) falling into this category.

Psychological abuse accounted for five cases, or 15.6 per cent of the total.

Two cases of sexual assault (6.3 per cent) were reported and three cases involving multiple charges (9.4 per cent.)

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has told Macau News Agency (MNA) that 58 potential domestic violence cases were investigated in the period of January to July.

According to statistics released in 2017, the centre for domestic violence reported a total of 96 confirmed cases of domestic violence for 2017, while the total number of suspected cases totalled 2,278 over the same period.

Out of the total number of confirmed cases, 73 involved the spouse, while 20 involved violence against children.
