Macau | 5-star hotel occupancy rate over 95 pct in August

Macau (MNA) – Visitor arrivals on package tours totalled 785,000 in August, up 12.4 per cent year-on-year, according to a survey released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Wednesday.

Outbound residents using services of travel agencies recordeda 20.0 per cent year-on-year to 141,000.

However, residents travelling on package journeys decreased 8.1 per cent due to Mainland China and Republic of Korea are the main travel destination on their wish, the first 8 months’ statistics reflected. During this period, outbound residents using services of travel agencies reached some 10 million, which is a year-on-year increase of nearly 7 per cent.

As of August, there were 116 hotels and guesthouses operating in Macau, nine more than in the same month last year, with guest rooms rising 7.8 per cent to 39,000, with 25,000 rooms in 5-star hotels representing more than 62.2 per cent of the total number.

In total, hotels and guesthouses received more than 1.27 million guests in August, more 16.8 per cent yearly, with Mainland China (912,000), Hong Kong (140,000) and Taiwan (42,000) guests increasing 25.4 per cent, 1.4 per cent, and 7.0 per cent yearly , respectively, with the number of guests from South Korea (44,000) dropping 10.9 per cent.

Guests of hotels and guesthouses showed a positive height of some 93 million, representing an increase of 8 per cent.

The average length of stay of guests remained steady year-on-year at 1.5 nights.

On the other hand, high ranking hotels remained in high demanding as travellers’ first choices because the rates of 5-star and 4-star hotels reached 96.2 per cent and 94.6 per cent, respectively.
