Macau | Allowed use of Canidrome sports facilites to be increased – Sports Bureau

Macau (MNA) – The Sports Bureau Vice-Director, Lau Cho Un, announced this Wednesday that the schedule for public use of the Canidrome sports facilities will be increased.

The Canidrome site includes the Lin Fong Sports Centre, which offers a football field with an all-weather tartan athletics track, two indoor swimming pools, a gymnasium and table tennis areas.

“Now we have more sport areas available, especially the running track which will be open for public from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm from Monday to Sunday. We now have some 80 people using the race track every day,” the ID representative said.

The sports facilities at the Canidrome were previously conditioned by the scheduled daily races, but after the track passed to Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) control on July 21 the use of the sports facilities will be extended.

The race track was previously only available for joggers from 6:00am to 8:00 pm, with the remaining time only available for group bookings and with the track closed during activities at the natural grass football field or during greyhound racing.

“The football field is very used by the Macau Football Association, for school championships and for different sport clubs. It already has a long use and the grass needs time to recover. Currently, it can be used on Wednesdays and Fridays and we are thinking of adding an extra day of use,” he said.

Lau added that the Bureau has informed the government about the need to add more facilities in the site for different sport modalities but no design for the areas having been planned yet.

“The current amenities will remain as they are for now. Areas for different sports will be added later […]. The extra use hasn’t generated any extra expenses for operating the installations,” he stated.

This information was presented during an event to introduce the summer youth activities plan organised by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the ID, with 57,234 openings for 1,962 different activities being made available.

Some 92 per cent of those vacancies had been filled by local students, with 31,411 being for cultural activities and 22,049 for sports activities.
