Macau (MNA) – British pilot Calum Ilott was first in the FIA F3 World Cup Qualifying race, and will start in pole position in tomorrow’s final race.
Almost 8 seconds behind was Motopark Dallara-Volkswagen, Joel Eriksson, who managed the second place, followed by Carlin pilot Sergio Sette Camara in third.
During half of the race Ericsson was in first, battling with Theodore Racing driver Calum Illot, almost 0.74 seconds before, with teammate Maximilian Gunther behind.
During the fourth lap, Ilott’s teammate from the local supported F3 team, Mick Schumacher lost control of his car at the Lisboa Bend.
Despite attempts from Ilott, the BMW Junior Team talent maintained its first position, until the Theodore Racing driver managed to overtake him in the Mandarin Oriental Bend for the first position on the 7th lap.
Brazilian pilot Sergio Sette Camara – 3rd in last year’s F3 World Cup, managed to arrive in 3rd despite starting in 9th, with Swedish pilot Ericsson fighting off attempts by the Carlin driver to overtake him in the last laps.
Lando Norris – the FIA F3 European Championship winner and second fastest in the qualifying sessions only managed a disappointing 7th place.
