Macau | City passport goes up to 33rd in global passport ranking

The Macau SAR passport went up three places to 33rd in the most recent 2018 Henley Passport Index in terms of visa-free access, with Hong Kong in 17th and Mainland China in 71st

Macau (MNA) – The Macau SAR passport ranked 33rd in the most recent 2018 Henley Passport Index, going up three places from last year’s index.

The city shares the 33rd place with West Indies country Grenada, with both territories having visa-free access to 144 countries and regions.

Hong Kong SAR passport holders saw the city go up five places to 17th, with the neighbouring city SAR residents being exempt from visa to 170 countries and regions, while China’s passport ranking went 14 places to 71st.

Japan held the strongest passport in the world, with Japanese passport holders having visa-free access to 190 countries and regions.

The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of all the passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free and based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
