Macau | Five Pearl Horizon buyers decline to join group lawsuit against gov’t – Legislator

Macau (MNA) – Legislator Song Pek Kei told Macau News Agency (MNA) on Wednesday that a group comprising five Pearl Horizon buyers and six government representatives were present at a meeting held with Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan to discuss a solution  compensation scheme offered to buyers.

Song added that further details about the housing scheme to be offered for purchase to affected buyers will be revealed after a public consultation in August given the complexity of the different parties involved in the Pearl Horizon saga.

According to a release filed late Tuesday night, the buyers present in the meeting are supportive of pursuing compensation from Polytex, which is the stance of the Macau SAR Government.

Legislators Ella Lei Ching I, Song Pek Kei and Si Ka Lon were present in the meeting according to the release.

The number of buyers received by the Secretary is substantially fewer than the 1,600 buyers led by the chairman of the Pearl Horizon Condominium Owners United Association, Kou Meng Pok, who claim they are suing the government for “administrative misconduct.”

This action is supported by legislator Zheng Anting, who had previously told MNA that the government had “only issued the construction permit two years before the concession expired […]. How is it possible to use two years to build 5,000 flats?”

Official measures proposed by the government previously included offering up to 2,000 units for sale for affected buyers at the same price as the original units in the temporary housing project to be built on the same land once destined to accommodate the Pearl Horizon complex, with one unit reserved per buyer.

In addition, the government has set up a Facebook page to communicate directly with affected buyers.
