Macau | Food & beverage manufacturing receipts up 30 pct y-on-y in 2017 to MOP2.4 bln

Macau (MNA) – Total receipts for the local industrial sector increased 12.1 per cent year-on-year to MOP11.5 billion (US$1.4 billion) in 2017, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

As of the end of last year some 12,498 were employed in the industrial sector, more 451 than in the year prior, with a total of 932 establishments engaged in industrial production.

Meanwhile the sector’s surplus in 2017 reached some MOP3.2 billion, a 15.6 per cent yearly rise from the previous year, with the sector’s contribution to the local economy going up 11.9 per cent to some MOP5.4 billion.

The industrial sector is divided into manufacturing and electricity, gas and water supply, with former having generated some MOP7 billion in receipts and the latter generating some MOP4.5 billion.

The majority of industrial establishments or 41 per cent were engaged in the manufacture of food products & beverages, and employed 44 per cent of all industrial employees.

Total Receipts of Manufacture of Food Products & Beverages grew by 29.7 per cent year-on-year to MOP2.45 billion in 2017.

Small-scale establishments with less than 30 persons engaged predominated in the Manufacturing sector, accounting for 92.7 per cent of the total
