Macau | Galaxy confident on gaming concession renewal

Macau (MNA) – Galaxy Entertainment Group Deputy Chairman, Francis Yiu Tung Lui, said this Wednesday he believes the group’s investment in non-gaming elements and in Macau’s development will be viewed favourably when the times comes to renew its gaming licence in 2022.

“The Macau Government has given us this good opportunity [and] Galaxy has performed really well. In 2017,  our market share is already number one in the market. We have a HK$1.3 billion fund to help the development of young people in Macau with the local government always encouraging the long term development of Macau in terms of non-gaming facilities,” Mr. Lui said.

The statements were made today during the press conference to reveal the group’s 2017 full year financial results.

According to Mr. Lui, non-gaming elements will be included in its Galaxy Macau Phase 3 & 4 expansion and “if these areas do well” the group’s capacity to attract differenet types of customer will be viewed “positively” by the Macau Government when the time for renewal comes.

When asked if the resignation of Wynn Macau’s Chairman Steve Wynn due to sexual harassement allegations would lead to more strict requirements for concession renewal, the GEG Executive Director stated that “it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to comment” the issue.

“GEG management is strong and it shouldn’t affect its daily operations” he added.
