Macau | Gaming and hotel industries encourage city’s IT development – Hong Kong-based tech firm

Macau (MNA) – The city’s gaming and hotel industries encourage information technology (IT) development, giving the city potential to grow in the field, said the operations controller of Hong Kong-based technology firm JOS, Patrick Ng (pictured left).

With a booth set up at the Jardines Career Expo on Saturday, Mr. Ng said gaming operators nowadays also look for elements that could attract clients, such as technology that can be applied to non-gaming elements.

“The Macau SAR Government’s co-orporation with the Alibaba Group will also encourage the development of IT operations, as well as the demand for related human resources,” remarked Mr. Ng.

According to Mr. Ng, companies such as Microsoft, Apple Inc, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and Huawei, which JOS also worked with, are also interested and have their eyes on Macau’s market.

Regarding human resources, Mr. Ng said it is necessary to introduce IT talent from around the world to the city, to allow more exposure to the latest and best technologies worldwide.

He further admitted that it is difficult to hire related talent, in particular technicians in the past years, given the city’s small population and competition with other industries.

Mr. Ng said that JOS provides training for junior staff, noting that “it is necessary [to provide training] because the [IT] industry is constantly changing.
