Macau | Gov’t pledges to “harmonize” labour relations

Macau (MNA) – The Macau SAR Government’s policy making office will carry out research and review the level of harmony of labour relations in the city, said the Chief Executive (CE), Fernando Chui Sai On, on Wednesday at the Legislative Assembly (AL).

In response to legislator Lei Chan U’s interpellation, the top official reported that the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) had already resolved 91 per cent of disputes relating to labour relations.

Regarding the import of non-resident workers, the CE said that an overall review on the ratio of non-resident workers will be performed once the second round of properties by gaming operators are launched.

Gaming operators would be encouraged by the government, via an administrative approach, to dismiss employed non-resident workers if there are local residents capable of performing senior job positions.

The government pledged to raise the percentage of local residents taking medium or higher job positions to no less than 85 per cent at gaming-related companies.

The government also claimed it will continue to strengthen co-operation with local associations in order to run training courses in different areas, and to encourage residents to obtain certifications.
