Macau | Hengqin GDP up 11.6 pct y-o-y in 2017, reached RMB18.36 bln

Macau (MNA) – The Hengqin New District in Zhuhai City neighbouring the Macau SAR recorded growth of 11.6 per cent year-on-year in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to some RMB18.36 billion (MOP23.36 billion/US$2.9 billion) in the year 2017, according to the chairman of the Hengqin New District Administrative, Yang Chuan.

The chairman reported on Thursday that Hengqin District is striving to achieve 12 per cent growth in its GDP for 2018, with the goals of strengthening support on collaborative projects with companies from both Macau and the Hong Kong SARs.

In addition, the committee argued it is seeking over 20 collaborative projects to begin construction on in 2018.

Apart from continuing to expand the number of Macau-licensed vehicles entering the District – with some 800 vehicle allowances as of December 2017 – Mr. Yang said that Hengqin welcomes specialists from the MSAR such as doctors, architects and nurses to provide services in the district.

The committee head also pledged to support projects that have their first phases completed, such as Legend Ponto Plaza by Macau Lai Ying Investment Limited, Novotown by the Lai Sun Group, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science & Technology Industrial Park.
