Macau (MNA) – The city’s accumulated hotel occupancy rate for the entire year of 2017 was 89.2 per cent, up 4.6 percentage points from the 84.6 registered in 2016.
According to the latest data released by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the accumulated occupancy rate for 5-star hotels increased 5.3 percentage points, from 83.1 per cent in 2016 to 88.4 per cent last year; 4-star and 3-star hotels recorded an occupancy rate of 90.4 per cent and 91.3 per cent, up 4.4 percentage points and 2.9 percentage points, respectively.
Regarding the average hotel room price, 2017 posted MOP1,282.2, representing a drop of 0.2 per cent when compared to the MOP1,284.9 recorded in 2016.
MGTO data further reveals that a 5-star hotel room cost MOP1,603.5 in 2017, down 1.4 per cent year-on-year.
December occupancy rate up 2.8 pct y-o-y
In terms of the month of December, the occupancy rate stood at 93.5 per cent, up 2.8 percentage points year-on-year, and increased 1.4 percentage points month-on-month.
The highest yearly growth – achieved by 4-star hotels – posted an occupancy rate of 97.1 per cent, indicating 5.3 percentage points increase year-on-year.
The city’s 5-star hotels registered an occupancy rate at 91.2 per cent during the Christmas month, an increase of 5 percentage points when compared to 86.2 per cent recorded in 2016.
Meanwhile, hotel room prices grew an average of 3.3 per cent during the month to MOP1,275.4.
The greatest increase was witnessed for rooms in 3-star hotels, to MOP1,053.5 per room in 2017 from MOP950.2 during the same month in 2016.
Rooms in 4-star hotels cost on average some MOP846.6, up 8.8 per cent from MOP777.8 registered in 2016.
For 5-star hotel rooms, the price increased 0.1 per cent year-on-year to MOP1,550.1.
