Macau | Income generated from non-gaming sector by gaming operations hits 10.7 pct – Lionel Leong

Macau (MNA) – The income generated from non-gaming sectors by local gaming operators reached 10.7 per cent in 2016, successfully achieving the goal that was set out in the five-year plan, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong Vai Tac, said on Thursday.

The statement was made during the Secretary attendance of the plenary session at the Legislative Assembly (AL).

In response to legislators’ enquiries, the Secretary argued that the ratio of local workers within the management sector of gaming corporations has increased, and is still increasing, while the number of non-residential managers are dropping.

Regarding the former Government Information Bureau (GCS) building located in Largo do São Domingos, in downtown Macau, the Secretary said the ground floor of the building has already been granted to management by the Macao Economic Services (DSE) while the upper floor will be used as a station for the tourism police.

Secretary Leong said further that the ground floor of the building would be used for pop-up stores as an alternative to promote local brands.

When asked by pan-democratic legislator Ng Kuok Cheong about the stagnant progress of the renovation of the GCS building, the Secretary said the renovation projects was complex.
