Macau | Ka Ho hospital and rehabilitation centres completed, operations to begin soon – Secretary for Social Affairs

Macau (MNA) – The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chong Veng, announced during a media tour on Wednesday that the Ka Ho Rehabilitation Hospital in Coloane, which was constructed on a site previously used as a leper colony, will be operational either by the end of 2018 or early next year.

A nursing home and rehabilitation centre operated by the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) will begin its first phase of operations in August this year, according to Mr. Tam.

Another facility operational in the area is a drug rehabilitation centre operated by the Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Users in Macau (ARTM) which aims to rehabilitate drug users and make them employable members of society through a combination of psychological treatments and vocational training.

The hospital has been under construction since July 22, 2015 and was completed on May 14, 2018.

The construction for the hospital and centres cost some MOP260 million (US$32.17 million).

The healthcare premises occupies 21,750 square metres, of which 11,124 square meters is taken up by the hospital, with the rest consisting of several rehabilitation centres which target specific groups such as the elderly, former drug users, and women.

Offering 160 beds for public use, the hospital will provide treatments such as physical therapy, pain relief and rehabilitation ward services.
