Macau (MNA) – The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) has decided to impose a fine of MOP12,000 (US$1,484) to local kindergarten, D. José da Costa Nunes after the Bureau completed a probe over the school procedures in regard to a sexual abuse case revealed the press in May of this year.
DSEJ stated that the fine was set with consideration of the institution in question being cooperative, with management pledged to follow the measures suggested by the Bureau.
The press release on Wednesday informed that the system and operation of the kindergarten, as well as the way its principal and its teachers handle the incident, had violated several related laws and regulations such as the General Rules of Educational Institutions.
DSEJ had requested the kindergarten in question to improve its organisation, in particular the operation of its team in dealing with a crisis, and to hire suitable staff with adequate training to deal with such incidents.
The kindergarten would also need to submit a execution plan in improving the administrative management measures before proceeding to the next scholastic year 2018/2019.
According to regulations for private schools, the kindergarten can still file an appeal to the Administrative Court of Macau, otherwise it will have 30 days to pay it, with the amount to be granted to the Macau Social Action School Fund.
