Macau | Local driver Andre Couto confident in return to competition after six-months recovery

Macau (MNA) – In July, the Macau driver suffered a front-end impact at the China GT Championship in Zhuhai, and had to be airlifted to Hong Kong for treatment, with a fractured lumbar vertebra.

I’m in the recovery phase, doing physiotherapy and trying to reach the six months barrier. After that, I’ll do another exam to assess my condition. Some doctors think healing could take up to a year, others think it could take six months, but the Hong Kong doctor that is taking care of me thinks that if I can reach the six-month barrier, I’ll then be able to consider a return to competitions,” Couto told MNA.

The accident took away Couto’s chances to take part in the current Grand Prix, after having competed last year’s FIA GT World Cup for FFF Racing Team at the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan.

The local driver, who said he will remain involved in the Grand Prix through live commentary for local news broadcaster TDM, considers that the Mercedes and Audi drivers are the main favourites to win this year’s GT competition.

In 2000, the driver became the first and only Macau driver to win the Grand Prix F3 competition.
