Macau (MNA) – The Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT) claimed that it has included in the contract with the MTR Corporation Ltd the prioritisation of hiring local talent and to rolling out training for local employees when operating the Taipa Line of the Light Rail Transit (LRT).

In response to the interpellation made by legislator Leong Sun Iok, GIT assured that related training will be undertaken soon, although a specific time was not specified in the document.

According to a previous announcement, the Macau SAR Government will pay MOP5.88 billion (US$727.69 million) to the MTR to provide services for the operation and maintenance of the LRT.

The Hong Kong-based company will manage the city’s transit for the first five years when it is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2019.

GIT further indicated that it has established a penalty for the managing company if it fails to accomplish the requirements laid out by the government.
