Macau | New MGM property to focus more on length of stay and consumption by customers – MGM China CEO

Macau (MNA) – The new MGM property in Cotai will focus more on the length of stay and consumption made by guests and visitors, Grant Bowie, the company’s CEO, stated at the press conference prior the opening of the new property on Tuesday.

Asked by the press about the issue of having too many visitors in the city, Mr. Bowie commented that the city should focus more on the quality of visitors rather the number of visitors.

“We need to recognise the position ourselves and one of the ways to do this is pricing,” said the CEO, while remarking that “Macau is already quite an expensive destination [nowadays]”.

With the new property to have only 550 rooms operational after the opening today, the CEO said they will use many “strategies and tactics to optimise our performance as soon as possible”.

Regarding the introduction of the VIP segment to the new property, Mr. Bowie said there will be five junkets introduced “around the middle of the year”.

With the company having invested some US$3.4 billion for MGM Cotai, the CEO said the investment is a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the city in the long term.

He restated his confidence in the opening of the new property despite the upcoming expiration of the company’s gaming concession in 2020.
