Macau | Pearl Horizon buyers association to accept Gov’t proposal

Macau (MNA) – Head of Pearl Horizon Condominium Owners United Association, Kou Meng Bo, has announced that the association will formally present their acceptance of the Macau SAR Government’s solution for buyers at the Chief Executive’s Office at 4:00 pm on October 10.

In a letter addressed to Chief Executive (CE) Fernando Chui Sai On that was accessed by Macau News Agency (MNA), the committee of the home buyer’s association is now expressing willingness to “accept the government’s solution with some narrow differences.”

Kou did not clarify what these differences were, only telling MNA that he is “willing to accept” the government solution for Pearl Horizon home buyers.

Kou was formerly opposed to government proposals regarding replacement housing units, saying that only 30 had been accepted, contradicting claims by head of the Administration Appeal Bureau and Deputy Commissioner of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) Lam Chi Long that a majority of buyers had accepted the deal.

In this letter, Kou now says that more than 2,000 signatures from Pearl Horizon buyers had been collected to accept the government’s housing plan.

The association had previously lobbied for the government to ensure that buyers of the failed housing project were provided with the original units.

According to the official government plan, some 2,000 public housing units were to be reserved for the pre-sale buyers, with only one flat to be allocated per buyer or couple.

Polytex Corporation Ltd., the local arm of Hong Kong-based developer Polytec Asset Holdings had offered to resolve the ongoing payment owed by buyers of the aborted housing units after reaching an agreement with Bank of China (Macau).

The developer posted a notice Chinese newspaper Macao Daily proposing the arrangement on July 5.

In addition, Pearl Horizon home buyers consisted of more than half of the public opinions collected regarding the Temporary Housing Bill, according to the Macau SAR Government’s Policy Research Office (DSEPDR).

Proposed regulations include an amendment showing that in the future, buyers who purchase housing units which has had its concession revoked under the current Land Law can apply to purchase replacement houses under conditions set out by the Chief Executive.
