Macau | Peter Hickman with best time in first motorcycle qualifying – Grand Prix

Macau (MNA) – Two time Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix winner, Peter Hickman, finished with the best time in the first qualifying race of the 65th Macau Grand Prix at 2:25.429.

Perennial favorite and eight time Motorcycle Grand Prix winner, Michael Rutter, managed a second best time, with 2:26.378, followed by Danny Webb almost two seconds behind.

Hickman noted that today’s races were impacted by the accidents in the first training session, which injured drivers Raul Torras and Andrew Dudgeon.

“It was a tough start of the day with all the accidents this morning. It’s not ideal for anyone. I hope the riders are okay, but it means we got much less track time than we were supposed to. This session was almost the first session,” he said after the race.

Nevertheless he was happy with its performance and was confident this year he can do better than his 2nd place in 2017 and clinch its third Macau title with his BMW S1000 RR.

“Macau is different than any other circuit in the world because every corner is blocked and you can’t see through it because of the walls. Riding a bike in it is really difficult […] even though I know it well it is challenging, but I’m having a good time,” he stated.
