Macau (MNA) – Local police authorities have caught 640 suspected illegal workers that were found by authorities in 2018.
The total number was defined after authorities announced on Tuesday that they had nabbed 52 suspected illegal workers in Macau in the last month of the year.
These alleged illegal workers were found after inspections on 282 sites, including construction work sites, residences, and commercial and industrial establishments, conducted jointly that month by the Public Service Police Force (CPSP), the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and other public services.
According to the latest CPSP information, between January and November of 2018, a total of 707 illegal immigrants – of which 82.7 per cent were from Mainland China – were deported to their countries of origin, less 33 per cent year-on-year than in 2017.
However, the number of deported people for several different reasons in the first 11 months of the year went up 12.6 per cent year-on-year to 34,017, with 94.4 per cent being Mainland Chinese.
