Macau | Police to conduct violent armed robbery drill at Galaxy Macau on January 23

Macau (MNA) – Macau police authorities said this Saturday they will conduct a violent armed robbery drill at the Galaxy Macau integrated resort on the early hours of January 23.

The simulation will be conducted by the Unitary Police Services (SPU) and the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ), in cooperation with the Public Security Police Force (PSP), the Judiciary Police (PJ), the Firefighters Corps (CB) and the Galaxy Entertainment Group.

The drill – named ‘Wolf Capture’ – will simulate an armed robbery within the Galaxy resort complex that led to injured people, hostage-taking and the possibility of the presence of explosives, in order to test the capacity for cooperation between the police, various public entities and the gaming company.

The exercise will also test police authorities capacity for information exchange, command and coordination, and the effectiveness of the designed action plan, so as to improve the future contingency plans.

During the period the drill will take place, a section of the Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus between the JW Marriott Hotel Macau access road and the nearby roundabout will be blocked to traffic between 1:00am and 5:00am.

After a shooting incident in Las Vegas in October 2017 that resulted in 58 dead, Macau authorities held meetings with the city’s six gaming operators, and announced they would conduct terror attack drills in local casinos in order to prepare for a similar emergency scenario.

At the time authorities also announced other measures would be enforced to reinforce security, such as setting up special action teams in casinos, increased training for frontline staff in case of emergencies and the installation metal detectors in all casino entrances.
