Macau | 'Preliminary' interest in shifting Macau Lotus Checkpoint to Hengqin

Macau (MNA) – The Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, confirmed to media on Friday that there were ‘preliminary’ interest in relocating the Macau Lotus Checkpoint to Hengqin in Zhuhai.

Speaking to TDM Chinese, the Secretary had stated the Macau SAR Government had inspected the premises of Macau Lotus Checkpoint together with the Zhuhai Municipal Government.

However, the details on how the checkpoint will be regulated, land clearance and how the different legal jurisdictions will be handled were not disclosed by the Secretary.

According to Wong, the reason why the government is considering the shift is because ‘Hong Kong and Macau need to further integrate with the overall development of the Mainland.’
