Macau | Recreational complex in Taipa in progress, clearance for marina facilities pending

Macau (MNA) – The construction of facilities on the land plot adjacent to the Pousada Marina Infante in Taipa has started and is progressing steadily, although no clearance has yet been issued by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) for the construction of marina facilities, which are part of the project.

“At this stage, no updated information has been submitted by the applicant,” a spokesperson for DSAMA told Macau News Agency (MNA) regarding the 54,121 square foot recreational marina, yet to be greenlighted by the Bureau.

In early June, the DSAMA told MNA that it was evaluating the project’s viability, having received the initial application by the company in charge of the development, Marina Clube Internacional – Recreio e Investimentos (Macau) S.A.

The Bureau also said that the additional information requested from the company concerns commercial details which DSAMA cannot reveal.

Over the last two weeks MNA has contacted the company in which indirectly elected legislator Vitor Cheung Lup Kwan has a 75 per cent interest several times to enquire about this and other details of the project – of which ongoing construction is visible on the site (pictured, top; image taken by MNA mid-May) – with no response as of today.

The Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) has also confirmed to MNA that the construction permit to develop and operate other facilitates which are part of the recreational marina have been issued ‘this year,’ while the urban conditions plan of the area was issued roughly one year ago, on June 8, 2017, according to information displayed on the Cartography and Cadastre platform.

Some of the developments foreseen by the concession under the Marina Clube include shops, housing, offices, hotel, service apartments and parking spaces.

Part of the original land plot located at the angle of the Avenida Marginal Flor de Lotus and Avenida dos Jogos da Ásia, was reclaimed by the government earlier this year after the company had only partially developed the land in its possession since 1996, for the construction of a hotel, the existing Pousada Marina do Infante.

A detailed description about the public project – indicated in the cadastre document as plot A, north of the marina bay (pictured, below, in blue), include a zone for housing and an area for the construction of public roads (in yellow).

According to additional information available from the DSSOPT website, the current construction phase described by the Bureau for the land plot reverted to the government comprises the construction of a 34-storey residential edifice.

The 114.6-metre high building is planned to accommodate a total of 553 housing units, 46 commercial spaces, and 269 parking lots – 211 for cars and 58 for motorcycles – totalling a gross area of 36,772.49 square metres.

Details about the developments of plot B, under the company’s renewed concession are not available on the DSSOPT website of, with the company declining to provide additional information on the project.
