Macau | Signal No. 8 to be raised early morning to morning on Sunday

Macau (MNA) – The latest information issued by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) states that the probability of hoisting Typhoon Signal No. 8 will be high early Sunday morning, with Typhoon Mangkhut to be closest to the city during the daytime on Sunday September 16.

The super typhoon is currently over the western North Pacific, with SMG forecasting that it will enter within 800 kilometres of Macau on Saturday September 15, when Signal No.1 will be hoisted.

Given the anticipated threat to the city and the Pearl River Delta, Typhoon Signal No.3 is expected to be hoisted on Saturday evening.

There is also a ‘relatively high’ probability that the SMG will hoist the Orange or Level Three Storm Surge warning on Saturday evening, with flooding calculated to occur from Sunday noon to evening (see map below).

The water level above road level at the Inner Harbour is expected to reach 0.5 to 1.5 metres.

The wind force is estimated to reach level 8 to level 11 from Saturday evening to Sunday, with wind speeds ranging from 63 to 118 kilometres per hour.
