Macau (MNA) – The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced that it has raised the Storm Surge alert from Red to Black Level 5 at 2:00 pm.
The change was due to severe floods having occurred in several low-rise areas in the city, with the water level continuing to rise and expected to reach more than than 2.5 meters above the floor.
The duration of the flood will be relatively long, the department warned.
Meanwhile Typhoon Signal No. 10 remains in effect, wit Typhoon Mangkhut currently at 80 kilometres of distance from Macau.
The typhoon is directly affecting the mouth of the Pearl River and causing great threat to the region, the SMG indicated and is expected to cross the nearest point to the city, about 70 km, with wind speed to range between 63 – 118 km/h or more.
