Macau | Tourism price index up 2.78 pct y-on-y in Q2 2018

Macau (MNA) – For the second quarter of 2018 the Tourist Price Index (TPI) went up 2.78 per cent year-on-year to 129.86, according to data released on Friday by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

The highest rise in the price index – which reflects the price change of goods and services purchased by visitors – was attributed to accommodation, which rose 7.05 per cent year-on-year.

Transport and communications, and food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 6.3 per cent and 4.25 per cent, respectively.

Compared to the first quarter of 2018, TPI decreased 5.17 per cent during the quarter under review .

Price indices for accommodation fell 22.6 per cent, while transport and communications fell 3.51 per cent quarter-on-quarter due to lower hotel room rates and airfares after Chinese New Year.

The arrival of summer clothing and footwear drove up the price index of clothing and footwear by 2.1 per cent.

For the first half of 2018, TPI went up 4.48 per cent year-on-year, with price indices of accommodation and transport & communications rising 13.64 per cent and 6.44 per cent, respectively.
