Marchers demand higher pay for working in casinos

Hundreds of demonstrators marched through Macau yesterday demanding that the city’s six casino operators improve the pay and conditions of their employees. The organisers of the demonstration, the trade union Forefront of Macau Gaming, said the number taking part was 7,000 at its peak. The police put the number at 1,400. The demonstrators marched from the plaza by the Sands Macau casino-resort to the government headquarters building. The march became disorderly for a while outside the StarWorld Hotel when police prevented the demonstrators from marching around the MGM Macau casino-resort.
