Beijing asks for economic diversification

The central government has requested the Macau government to accelerate the pace of economic diversification in 2012.
According to chief executive Fernando Chui Sai On, that was one of the topics he discussed with president Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing during a duty visit earlier this week to do his yearly report.
Mr Chui said that the Macau government has placed great hope in regional co-operation to diversify Macau’s economy.
The chief executive said Mr Hu and Mr Wen also mentioned the need for the government to intensify the work on improving people’s livelihood and to manage financial matters carefully as the external environment for next year seems far from optimistic.
