The National People’s Congress Standing Committee will convene its bimonthly session from February 27 to 29.
At the session, legislators will discuss the report submitted by the Macau government on the results of the public consultation held last month about the reform of Macau’s electoral system.
According to a government statement, the report points out that the majority of the opinions collected stress that there should be changes both in the methods used to form the Legislative Assembly in 2013 and those used to select the chief executive in 2014.
The press release says the mainstream opinion proposes to increase the number of both directly and indirectly elected legislators by the same number, while keeping the number of legislators nominated by the government unchanged.
The press release adds the majority of opinions collected also suggest an increase in the number of members of the electoral committee for the chief executive.
