Prices for construction materials soared last year.
In 2011, the average price index of construction materials for residential buildings increased by 16.0 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Service said.
In the fourth quarter of last year, a ton of Portland cement cost MOP708 (US$88.5), up by 9.6 year-on-year.
The increase was sharper for concrete, up by a staggering 30.5 percent, to MOP406.
The average daily wage of construction workers, however, dropped to MOP583 in the fourth quarter of 2011 from MOP619 a year earlier.
