The average daily wage of construction workers was MOP608 (US$76) in the first quarter of 2011, down by 1.8 percent quarter-to-quarter, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service.
The average daily wages of skilled and semi-skilled workers (MOP625) and unskilled workers (MOP352) decreased by 2.0 percent and 3.0 percent respectively.
After discounting the effect of inflation, the wage index of construction workers was down by 3.9 percent over the previous quarter.
In regards to construction materials, the price of steel increased continuously. Moreover, the average price of Portland cement increased by 5.7 percent to MOP683 per tonne.
In the first quarter of 2011, the price index of construction materials for residential buildings rose by 8.3 percent quarter-to-quarter.
