New vehicles being imported into Macau will have to meet new guidelines on gas emissions, after the Executive Council finished reviewing a bylaw that will set limits on greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the regulation, new vehicles (including private cars, trucks and buses) will have to meet the European Union standard of Euro 4, with the scale ranging from 1 for higher emissions to 6 for lower emissions.

The move is welcomed by importers and environmentalists, however while in Macau, the Euro 4 standard is being implemented, Hong Kong has set its standards to meet Euro 5.
