The secretary for transport and public works, Lau Si Io, said today that the liberalisation of Macau’s telecommunication market “is considered a must”.
According to Mr Lau, this is “a promising way to bring in new technologies and service innovations to people at an affordable price.”
He added that 2012 “will be a year of significance, as the telecommunication market will be fully liberalized in Macau.”
Mr Lau was addressing the 8th Asia Pacific Telecommunication and ICT Development Forum, being hosted in Macau.
“Looking forward, there are topics in our agenda of ICT development, such as the IPv4-to-IPv6 migration, the possible adoption of cloud computing technology, the process of introducing convergent services etc., which will definitely require a great effort from us to have these foreseeable problems properly handled so as to pave ways for the sustainable development of Macau,” Mr Lau said.
