Every China expert worth their salt has a yarn about the Canton Export Commodities Fair. There was the time when they got lost heading from the East China Railway to the China Hotel. Or the one about the sweet deal they got on LED lights in Zhongshan. This year's Canton Fair promises grist for new stories. This April Wen Jiabao will christen a new identity for this legendary trade fair that Mao Zedong started in Guangzhou in 1957. It will be re-named "The Canton Import & Exports Commodities Fair" to include, well, imports. You might attend.
