Every China expert worth their salt has a yarn about the Canton Export Commodities Fair. There was the time when they got lost heading from the East China Railway to the China Hotel. Or the one about the sweet deal they got on LED lights in Zhongshan. This year's Canton Fair promises grist for new stories. This April Wen Jiabao will christen a new identity for this legendary trade fair that Mao Zedong started in Guangzhou in 1957. It will be re-named "The Canton Import & Exports Commodities Fair" to include, well, imports. You might attend. If you go, below are ten places for entertaining during the April 15-30 Canton Fair that embody the new (and the old) Guangdong.

1. A stroll through Huang Hua Gang Park in downtown Guangzhou. Take in Republican Era Guangzhou in this historic park dedicated to 72 martyrs who died in a 1911 uprising. The park even features a mini Statue of Liberty and a tree planted by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. For more info: www.gz.gov.cn
2. A night out in Shenzhen's Shekou District. Plenty of pubs and bistros to satisfy discerning and undiscerning revelers alike. For more info: www.shenzhenparty.com
3. Dining at Guangzhou's SEN5ES (for the five senses), a Toronto inspired fine food and wine destination that's won several local awards and is a Consulate and corporate hot-spot. Canadian owner Shawn Rayson is famed for hosting wine tasting parties and corporate events. For more info: www.senses.cc
4. Luigi Italian restaurant at the Dongguan Sheraton is one of the best Italian restaurants in South China with seafood and grilled delights. For reservations call: 86-769-8598-8888
5. A stay at Guangzhou's hidden Osaka-boutique style Elan hotel. Tucked away a few blocks from Guangzhou Western Train Station, this little hotel is bright clean, and trendy. It's also close to the tranquil Liu Hua Park. For more info: www.hotel-elan.com
6. Soak your bones in one of the many secluded baths at the Zhuhai Imperial Hot Spring resort. For more info: 86-756-579-7128
7. Tee off at Guangdong's premier golf course, the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen. For more info: www.missionhillsgroup.com
8. Stay at the newly opened Shangri-La next to the Canton Fair's Pazhou exhibition center. Featured restaurants include the Macanese themed "Wok Too caf?0?4" and "cool Thai". For more info: www.shangri-la.com
9. Imbibe bubbly and fire up stogies in GZ at the China Hotel's Champagne and Cigar lounge. For more info: www.marriott.com
10. Experience classic Chinese and western orchestras along the Pearl River at GZ's Xinghai Concert Hall. For more info: 86-8735-2222, Ext. 312 for English.
