Sands remains committed to Macau: Sheldon Adelson

Sands China Ltd chairman Sheldon Adelson says the gaming operator continues to be committed to Macau. In a press release issued yesterday announcing the opening date for the second phase of Sands Cotai Central – September 20, which had actually already been disclosed – Mr Adelson was quoted as saying that “Sands China remains committed to establishing Macau as a world centre of tourism and leisure, and Asia’s number one business and leisure destination.” Sands China says its investment in Macau is in excess of US$8 billion (MOP64 billion) to date. Foremost among the new facilities to be rolled out in the second phase of Sands Cotai Central is the first of two hotel towers from Sheraton Macao Hotel; the second tower will open in early 2013. Sands Cotai Central’s second phase will also include a second casino, while Shoppes Cotai Central will add a second level of duty-free shops, plus additional restaurants and a food court.
