It makes no sense, at least for the Association of SMEs, to implement a minimum wage system in Macau.
Daniel Iong, from the association, was quoted by Jornal Tribuna de Macau saying there are greater concerns right now to think about, particularly a lack of human resources.
He argues that, in any case, Macau will always follow suit with Hong Kong and regardless of the market situation, “Macau hasn’t stopped increasing workers’ wages.”
Mr Iong believes it would make sense to liberalise the recruitment market and not have a restriction on the number of quotas for imported workers, as this is one of the biggest obstacles SMEs are faced with.
He also blames the government’s lack of vision five years ago, which has left small-and-medium sized enterprises in the situation they are in now.
