The U.S.-based Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold its first mixed martial arts event in Macau next year, chief executive Lorenzo Fertitta told Reuters.

“We’ve really been doing a lot of work in China and that’s going to be a longer-term investment, but we are going to dip our toe in the water with an event in Macau,” said Mr Fertitta.

“It’s just a matter of finding the right date that works with our television deals around the world. That should be happening in 2012.”

Earlier this year, City of Dreams held two mixed martial arts events in collaboration with Hong Kong’s Legend Fighting Championship. At least two more events are scheduled.
